Stand In in ChatGPT

Turn on Developer mode, then add Stand In as a custom MCP app.

Developer mode · Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Edu. Web only

Developer mode is off by default, and it lives under Security rather than anywhere near Connectors, which is the step everyone misses.

  1. Settings → Security and login → turn on Developer mode.
  2. Settings → Plugins (or go straight to chatgpt.com/plugins) → the + button.
  3. Name it Stand In, add a one-line description, and paste the MCP server URL below.

The server must be reachable over HTTPS. Developer mode is web only.

Then just talk to it

Once it is connected, Stand In is something you say, not something you open.

  • “Read this capsule: <link>”
  • “Ask <link> what the refund policy is.”
  • “Make a stand-in from these notes and give me the review link.”
